Southern Oregon's Best Mountain Biking Trails for Winter: Ashland’s Top Trails.
Best Mountain Biking Trails Near Ashland for Dry Trail Winter Riding
When it comes to winter biking, choosing the right trails is key, especially when escaping wet rainy weather in the Pacific Northwest. Due to Ashland’s temperate and drier winter climate, the trails stay drier for longer, creating the best fall and winter mountain biking conditions.
Here are some of Ashlander’s favorite trails that are open and dry through most of the PNW winter.
1. Jabberwocky
Voted a favorite among most Ashland mountain bikers, the Jabberwocky trail, part of Ashland Watershed Trails, begins at Caterpillar Crossing and flows seamlessly into the Lizard Trail. This downhill-only, machine-built trail starts with some tight, steeply-bermed turns, which might intimidate beginner-intermediate riders. However, much of the trail is rideable for most skill levels, with just a few wider, steep turns to watch out for. Along the way, riders can enjoy table-top jumps, doubles, and short rock sections, making the trail both fun and fast. A brief flat section offers a chance to catch your breath—unless you're chasing Strava times and pushing through the pedal. Whether you ride up or take the shuttle to Mt. Ashland, Jabberwocky offers a thrilling, long descent that will leave you feeling both exhilarated and exhausted.

Fewer crowds during the off-season mean you’ll have the trail to yourself.

4. Mt. Ashland Trail
For those seeking a challenge, the Mt. Ashland Trail delivers a rewarding uphill climb followed by exhilarating descents. Even in winter, the trail remains rideable on many days, thanks to sunny breaks and moderate snowfall.
